Rensselaer is a member of the Connect NY Consortium. Members of this project provide rapid access to their shared book collections. Current members include Bard College, Colgate University, Pace University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rochester Institute of Technology, Siena College, St. Lawrence University, Union College, United States Military Academy and Vassar College. The Architecture Library's collection was begun in 1929 and the branch facility established in 1930. It now occupies approximately 4700 square feet on the east side of the Greene Building's third floor. The physical collection has grown to 30,000 print titles housed in the facility and over 100,000 slides. The graphic collections now include an increasing number of digitized images, and multi-media material on architecture, design and the visual arts, as well as traditional maps, drawings, prints, photographs and microform collections. Museums or other Special Academic Buildings on Campus:In September 2004 Rensselaer opened the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The 218,000-square-foot facility houses more than 400 faculty, staff, and student researchers in biotechnology, information technology, and related disciplines.The Center contains an 800 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer and the computing and visualization infrastructure needed to model molecular structure at the atomic level. In 2007 Rensselaer will open the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center. EMPAC is a place and a program, where the arts challenge and alter our technology and technology challenges and alters the arts.
